Tinubu's Efforts to Retain Adelabu Amid Resignation

Adebayo Adelabu, the former Minister, has reportedly resigned from his position against the wishes of President Bola Tinubu, who had sent intermediaries to caution him against stepping down. Adelabu's resignation is aimed at pursuing a governorship position in Oyo State for the 2027 general elections.

The resignation is set to take effect on March 31, 2026, to allow for a smooth transition. Despite public criticism regarding his performance, particularly concerning issues like grid collapses and rising electricity tariffs, sources indicate that President Tinubu has defended Adelabu's performance in office.

The resignation follows the earlier departure of Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance, which has led to discussions about appointing a new minister from the Oyo APC chieftains to coordinate economic efforts.
