Abuja Court Reviews Confession Video in Journalist Murder Case

On October 14, 2026, an FCT High Court in Jabi, Abuja, viewed a confessional video related to the murder of Arise News journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu and security guard Barnabas Danlami, who were killed in September 2025. Judge Mohammed Idris presided over the session, where the prosecution, led by lawyer Adama Musa, presented the video through Douglas Ishaku, an assistant superintendent of police.
The video included police interrogations of the 11 defendants. The first defendant, Shamsu Hassan, admitted to shooting the security guard during a robbery and claimed to have received N200,000 from the stolen goods.
Sani Sirajo, the second defendant, stated he drove the gang to the crime scene. Defence lawyers raised concerns about the absence of legal representation during the suspects' statements.
The judge adjourned the trial until December 9 for further cross-examination.
