Police Testify on Circumstances of Journalist's Death

In the ongoing trial concerning the death of ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, new evidence was presented on September 29. Assistant Superintendent of Police Douglas Ishaku testified in the FCT High Court that investigations revealed Maduagwu was pushed from her third-floor apartment at Unique Apartments during a robbery.
He stated that only eight of the 11 defendants were involved in the robbery that occurred on September 29, 2025. Ishaku identified Shamsu Hassan as the individual believed to have shot security guard Barnabas Danlami during the incident.
The court heard that Hassan allegedly possessed a fabricated AK-47 rifle used in the robbery, while a foreign-made pump-action rifle was linked to the second defendant, Sani Surajo. Police recovered these weapons, along with daggers and machetes, after the suspects' arrests.
Justice Mohammed Idris adjourned the trial until October 7 for further proceedings, with the defendants remaining accused persons as the allegations are yet to be determined by the court.
