Nigerian Returnees from Libya Share Harrowing Experiences

A group of Nigerian returnees from Libya shared their harrowing experiences of being attacked and robbed by armed men while seeking better opportunities abroad. The returnees, numbering 329, arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano at 10:50 AM, facilitated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under a voluntary repatriation program.

Among the returnees were 165 males, 72 females, 46 boys, and 46 girls from various states including Kaduna, Jigawa, Kano, Borno, and Katsina. Fatima Sani, a widow and mother of five from Nasarawa, recounted her struggles in Libya after losing her husband two years ago, stating that armed robbers stole her earnings and belongings.

Another returnee, Saihatu Idri, also faced theft and hardship during her time in Libya. Both women emphasized the need for government support to help rebuild their lives upon returning to Nigeria.
