IOM Returns 180 Nigerian Migrants from Libya to Lagos

On Tuesday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) facilitated the return of 180 Nigerian migrants from Libya, arriving at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos aboard a charter flight from Buraq Airlines at 8:15 PM. The group primarily consisted of women and children who voluntarily returned after enduring a difficult journey in search of opportunities but faced hardship and uncertainty.

Among the returnees were 108 adult females, 45 adult males, and 17 children, including seven females and ten males, as well as 12 infants, comprising eight females and four males. This brought the total number of returnees to 182.

Ali Ibrahim, a representative from IOM, noted that two of the returnees were unaccompanied children. Upon arrival, the returnees received support, including health screening, counseling, and access to reintegration assistance to help them rebuild their lives.

Nearly 65,700 Nigerians have returned safely from Libya over the past decade, with 52,200 receiving reintegration support.
