Army establishes new battalion and artillery unit in Kano
Nigerian Army opens 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta to strengthen security operations across Kano State.
The Nigerian Army has created two new military formations in Kano State as part of efforts to bolster security presence in the region. The 24 Battalion was established in Tudun Wada while the 311 Artillery Regiment was set up in Dambatta local government area.
Military officials said the move aims to expand operational coverage and improve the armed forces' ability to respond to security challenges. Babatunde Zubairu, assistant director of army public relations for 3 Brigade in Kano, stated that the new units reflect the Army's resolve to enhance security operations.
He explained that the formations were created to address emerging threats and strengthen the military's operational footprint across the state. Senator Jibrin Barau, the Deputy President of the Senate, welcomed the development in separate statements.
Barau praised President Bola Tinubu and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf for their roles in establishing the units. He also commended Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, for his leadership in repositioning the armed forces to tackle security threats.
Barau described the deployment as a significant step toward combating banditry and violence in the northwest region. He stressed that the success of the operation would depend partly on support from communities in the affected areas.
The senator framed the military expansion as evidence of the federal government's commitment to tackling armed criminality across the country.
