ADC Demands El-Rufai's Release or Arraignment

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate release or arraignment of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, who has been in detention for over 30 days without formal charges. The party argues that this situation violates fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution.

El-Rufai was initially taken into custody by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) following an invitation related to economic and financial crimes. The ADC's national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described El-Rufai's detention as illegal and unconstitutional, asserting that it undermines democratic principles in Nigeria.

The party emphasized that the government should not use detention as a means to silence critics or intimidate political opponents. El-Rufai faces allegations of cybercrime and has been linked to a probe involving the misappropriation of N432 billion in Kaduna State public funds.

He was granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) but was rearrested by the ICPC shortly after.
