Sultan Declares Eid el-Fitr Amid Security Concerns

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, announced that Eid el-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, March 30, 2026, following the sighting of the new moon on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. This marks the conclusion of Ramadan, a month of fasting and spiritual reflection for Muslims.

The Sultan emphasized the importance of prayer and charity during this period, particularly in light of recent violence in Maiduguri, where bomb blasts resulted in numerous casualties. Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, called for unity and peace among the nation's diverse faiths.
