Sultan Urges Muslims to Watch for Shawwal Crescent

On Tuesday, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, who is also the President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, issued a statement through the Sultan Council Sokoto, advising Muslims across the country to observe the sighting of the Shawwal Crescent on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. This date corresponds to the 29th day of Ramadan 1447AH.

The Sultan emphasized the importance of promptly reporting any sightings of the new moon through appropriate traditional channels, with village heads tasked to communicate findings to the Sultan's office. A dedicated telephone line will be available for credible reports.

The confirmation of the Shawwal moon sighting will determine the date for Eid-el-Fitr prayers nationwide, marking the conclusion of the Ramadan fast and the commencement of the Eid celebrations.
