NSIA Launches $300M Renewable Energy Fund for Nigeria

The Africa Social Impact Summit (ASIS) has spotlighted the $300 million Nigeria Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Fund, a significant initiative aimed at addressing Nigeria's electricity access gap. Launched commercially by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), Africa50, and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the fund is designed to enhance investment in renewable energy solutions for underserved communities and businesses.
This initiative was featured at the inaugural ASIS Global Action Forum in New York, which coincided with the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The forum, organized by Sterling One Foundation in collaboration with NSIA, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), RALLY, and other partners, focused on mobilizing capital for Africa's development priorities.
Co-managed by NSIA and Africa50, with SEforALL leading energy access efforts, the fund aims to deploy renewable energy solutions, including mini-grids and standalone solar systems, across Nigeria. Yusuf Umar, Managing Director and CEO of the Renewables Investment Platform for Limitless Energy (RIPLE), emphasized the need for financing structures to effectively close Nigeria's energy access gap.
Olapeju Ibekwe, CEO of Sterling One Foundation, highlighted the fund's role in translating development discussions into practical interventions.
