ASUP Calls for National Commission for Polytechnics to Enhance Quality Assurance

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) is calling on the Nigerian government to establish a National Commission for Polytechnics to ensure quality and regulation in the polytechnic sector. ASUP President Shammah Kpanja highlighted the importance of dedicated oversight, pointing out disparities between polytechnics and universities in terms of funding and recognition.

The union emphasized the need for improved funding, training capacity, and skill acquisition to address unemployment and promote self-employment. ASUP also raised concerns about salary packages and discrimination against Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates.

The demands were made at the 18th National Delegates Conference held in Plateau State.
