ASUU Tasks Federal Gov’t On Addressing Lingering Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged the Federal Government to address the long-standing issues in the Nigerian university system to avoid another industrial crisis. ASUU criticized the government for not taking concrete action despite Minister of Education Tunji Alausa's recent comments.

President Professor Christopher Piwuna emphasized the need for the government to go beyond words and act on the outstanding issues, such as funding, autonomy, and academic freedom. ASUU accused the government of neglecting collective bargaining agreements and undermining the union's demands.

The union also condemned the government's handling of lecturer salaries and promotions through the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS). ASUU called for a genuine effort from both federal and state governments to address labor issues promptly and provide a conducive environment for academic work.
