ASUU Rejects FG’s Loan Scheme, Threatens Fresh Protests

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the Federal Government's loan scheme and threatened fresh protests. In a communiqué issued at the end of a National Executive Council meeting held at Usmanu Danfodio University in Sokoto and signed by President Christopher Piwuna, ASUU stated that the government's introduction of a loan scheme to pay members' withheld salaries was not acceptable.

The union accused the government of deliberately stalling the implementation of key agreements, including the renegotiation of the 2009 pact. ASUU listed unresolved disputes with the government, such as conditions of service, funding, university autonomy, academic freedom, and the review of laws governing regulatory bodies.

ASUU also announced plans to unveil a new accountability platform called Tertiary Institutions Transparency and Accountability Solution (TITAS) to replace the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
