ASUU Warns Of Fresh Strike Over Unresolved Labour Disputes

ASUU has issued a warning of a potential fresh strike due to unresolved labour disputes in Nigerian public universities. The President, Christopher Piwuna, expressed concern over the overburdening of lecturers with teaching, research, and community service responsibilities without adequate resources.

The union highlighted the failure of successive governments to honor the 2009 Agreement, which was due for renegotiation in 2012. Key issues in the agreement include service conditions, university funding, autonomy, and reforms in NUC and JAMB.

ASUU accused the government of offering platitudes instead of concrete solutions and criticized the politicization of appointments in universities. The union also condemned the discriminatory nature of IPPIS and urged genuine patriots in the government to take immediate steps to prevent another breakdown in the university system.
