ASUU Benin Zone Warns of Impending University Crisis, Blames FG for Neglect

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the Benin Zone has warned of a looming crisis in Nigerian universities, blaming the federal government for neglecting the education sector. The Zonal Coordinator, Monday Igbafen, highlighted the marginalization of scholars and poor working conditions, including unpaid salaries and arrears.

ASUU accused the government of reneging on promises made since the last strike suspension in October. Igbafen called on Nigerians, including students, parents, and civil society groups, to pressure the government to address the issues in the education sector.

The union emphasized the urgent need for intervention to prevent a paralysis in universities.
