Edun Advocates Financial Reform at G-24 Meetings in Abuja

At the G-24 meetings held in Abuja, Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, called for a united and results-oriented agenda to reform the global financial architecture. In his keynote address at the 2026 G-24 Technical Group meeting, he emphasized the need for robust solutions to address the challenges posed by the current financial system, particularly in relation to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which are approaching their 80th anniversary.

Edun highlighted the importance of reforming the global financial architecture to enhance the capacity of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and to prioritize local currency financing. Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), also spoke at the meeting, stressing the necessity of improving cross-border payment systems to achieve job-rich and inclusive growth.

He noted that the CBN is working on a new payment system vision for 2028, aimed at boosting financial inclusion and enhancing the resilience of the financial system.
