ADC Criticizes INEC Chairman at Opposition Leaders' Summit

At an opposition leaders' summit held in Ibadan, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) expressed strong criticism of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan. Senator David Mark, the ADC National Chairman, warned that Amupitan's actions could lead to a loss of public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mark emphasized the importance of maintaining a neutral and credible electoral body, likening the role of an umpire to that of a referee in sports, where impartiality is crucial for legitimacy. He highlighted the historical context of distrust in Nigeria's electoral processes and called for urgent action to restore faith in democracy.

Mark urged opposition leaders to unite and focus on the nation's challenges, including rising violence and insecurity, stressing that the survival of the country depends on collective effort and trust-building among political entities.
