ADC Demands INEC Chairman's Resignation Over Bias

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed shock at the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) decision to withdraw recognition of the party's leadership, demanding the resignation of INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan. During a press conference on Thursday at Shehu Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja, ADC's National Chairman David Mark described the situation as a direct attack on democracy, warning that it threatens multi-party politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mark criticized the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for undermining political freedoms and creating an environment hostile to opposition parties. He asserted that INEC's actions, influenced by a court ruling, have led to a loss of confidence in the commission's ability to conduct credible elections.

The ADC plans to hold congresses starting April 9, with a national convention on April 14, despite the controversy surrounding INEC's involvement. Mark urged citizens and civil society to recognize the implications of INEC's actions on Nigeria's democratic process.
