Atiku backs call to end ‘illegal’ sole administrator in Rivers

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the appointment of a sole administrator to oversee local government affairs in Rivers State, calling it unconstitutional and a threat to democracy. Atiku warned that the situation in Rivers State could have nationwide implications if not addressed, urging all well-meaning individuals to condemn the arrangement.

He emphasized the need to protect democratic principles in Rivers State and across Nigeria, cautioning against the use of the state as a test case that could undermine democracy. Atedo Peterside, a business leader and founder of ANAP Foundation, also joined in calling for an end to the sole administrator arrangement, highlighting the need to uphold constitutional provisions for local government administration.

The development comes amidst escalating political tensions in Rivers State, with critics arguing that the sole administrator role violates the country's democratic principles.
