Tinubu, Rivers' Sole Administrator, RSIEC Dragged To Court, Reason Emerge

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, and Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas have been taken to court over the planned local government election set for August 30, 2025. The plaintiffs, including Fredrick Ededeh and Benita Samuel, argue that conducting the election during a state of emergency is unlawful and could lead to a breakdown of public order and safety.

They question the validity of holding the election during this period and have asked the court to stop it. The Nigerians Movement for Democracy has called on President Tinubu to reconsider the emergency rule decision and use legislative processes to address the situation.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Constitutional Governance has criticized the mass suspension of political office holders in Rivers State by the sole administrator, warning of dangerous precedents.
