Atiku Abubakar Advocates Production Subsidy for Nigerians

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has defended the implementation of a production-linked subsidy to alleviate the cost-of-living pressures faced by Nigerians. In a statement made through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, on Sunday, Atiku emphasized that economic indicators must align with the daily realities of citizens, particularly concerning fuel, food, and transportation prices.

He referenced the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) advocating for support in domestic refining and pointed to the U.S. energy policies under former President Donald Trump as effective models. Atiku criticized President Bola Tinubu's removal of the fuel subsidy, which has led to increased costs for Nigerians.

He proposed a “Production Subsidy” aimed at enhancing local production and refining, thereby reducing consumer prices. Atiku called for government support similar to that given to large companies, stressing the urgency for relief in daily expenses for families and businesses.
