Atiku Abubakar Demands Clarity on El-Rufai's Detention

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has called on the federal government to provide clarity regarding the detention of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai. This demand arises amid reports of health complications that restrict El-Rufai's access to family and legal counsel.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Atiku expressed grave concern for El-Rufai's situation, emphasizing that the federal government owes Nigerians transparency about the agencies involved in his detention, which includes the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). Atiku warned that secrecy surrounding El-Rufai's detention fuels suspicion and that Nigerians deserve transparency.

Reports indicate that El-Rufai has suffered health issues, including a nosebleed while in EFCC custody. His legal team has sought variations to his bail conditions, and there are allegations of restricted access to food and medical care.

Atiku stressed that the fundamental rights of detainees must be guaranteed without political bias.
