Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu on Hunger Crisis in Nigeria

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration for exacerbating hunger and economic hardship in the country. In a statement issued in Abuja by his senior special assistant on public communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku warned that 35 million Nigerians are projected to face acute hunger between June and August 2026.

He attributed the worsening situation to poor economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and mishandling of foreign exchange reforms, which have led to rising food prices and inflation. Atiku emphasized that the federal government has failed to provide effective economic coordination and social protection for vulnerable Nigerians.

He called for the declaration of a national food security emergency and urged the government to introduce urgent support measures for farmers, such as subsidies for farm inputs and improved access to credit. Atiku warned that without immediate action, the situation could lead to increased hunger, insecurity, and social unrest.
