Atiku Abubakar Engages US Lobbying Firm for $1.2M

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has entered into a $1.2 million agreement with the Washington-based lobbying firm Von Batten Montagu York L.C. to bolster his image abroad and counter the narrative promoted by the Nigerian government. The formal agreement was signed in early March 2026 and will be executed by the firm's managing partner, Karl Von Batten, alongside Nigerian politician Fabiyi Oladimeji, who will act on behalf of Abubakar.

The engagement aims to improve Atiku's standing within US political circles and present his leadership ideas to key stakeholders, pushing back against narratives considered unfavorable to him. The lobbying firm will facilitate high-level meetings with US officials, including members of Congress and executive branch aides, focusing on issues such as governance, economic growth, and regional stability.

The contract will run for 12 months, structured in six installments, and includes managing Atiku's public image in the US, developing strategic messaging, and targeting influential stakeholders. This move is seen as part of Atiku's strategy ahead of the 2027 presidential race, where he is expected to play a significant role amid challenges within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
