Atiku Abubakar Welcomes Appeal Court's Stay on ADC Deregistration

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), welcomed the decision of the Appeal Court to stay the execution of a Federal High Court judgment that ordered the deregistration of the ADC and four other political parties. The ruling, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu on Monday, temporarily preserves the registration status of these parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had initiated the application for deregistration. In a statement, Atiku Abubakar expressed his approval of the Appeal Court's intervention, describing the development as significant, particularly for the ADC.

He criticized the judiciary for what he termed a contradiction in its rulings amid ongoing legal disputes and warned that the situation places the judiciary under public scrutiny.
