Atiku Abubakar to Choose Amaechi as Running Mate for 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, is set to choose Chibuike Amaechi, the former Minister of Transport, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This strategic move is perceived as a response to the candidacies of Peter Obi from the Labour Party and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Atiku's decision marks a departure from his approach in the 2023 elections, where he declined to select former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as a running mate. Amaechi has previously dismissed suggestions regarding the vice presidential slot, emphasizing his pursuit of the presidential ticket and rejecting claims of any consensual arrangement.

The ADC plans to conduct direct primary elections on May 20, 2027. Sources indicate that Atiku has assured Amaechi of a significant role during the campaign.

Additionally, ADC chieftain Ez Chukwuemeka dismissed claims that Amaechi turned down the vice presidential position, clarifying that no formal offer had been made at that time.
