Atiku Abubakar to Address Nigeria's Crisis in US Visit

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has confirmed his intention to visit the United States to highlight Nigeria's escalating insecurity and governance concerns. In a statement issued on Sunday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku emphasized that Nigeria is facing a full-blown international crisis, with persistent violence in the northwest and northeast, as well as kidnappings and crime spreading throughout the country.

He warned that the Nigerian state is losing its fundamental responsibility to protect lives and property. Atiku also addressed the economic situation, noting rising inflation, a weakening currency, and declining purchasing power, which have pushed millions into distress.

He expressed concern over the decline of public confidence in Nigeria's democratic institutions and the electoral process, warning that attempts to undermine transparency could have serious consequences. Atiku plans to engage with international partners, asserting that Nigeria does not exist in isolation and that global engagement is crucial for stabilizing governance and democratic health.

He has recently hired a Washington-based lobbying firm for a $1.2 million contract to enhance his reputation and influence policy perceptions in the U.S.
