Atiku Abubakar Votes in ADC Presidential Primary in Adamawa

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, participated in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary held on Monday in Adamawa State, specifically at the Ajiya Ward poll unit in Jimeta, Yola. He described the primary as a significant step towards recovering Nigeria and fostering democracy.

The ADC conducted this primary exercise across 8,809 wards in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, utilizing a direct primary method. Despite calls for a consensus candidate, three presidential aspirants reportedly declined to step down.

Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transport, also took part in the nationwide exercise, casting his vote in Ubima. He addressed the need for voters to prioritize merit in leadership choices rather than ethnic or religious considerations.

Hayatu Deen, another participant in the Borno State primary, called for support for the new direct voting process. The ADC's efforts to reach a consensus candidate reportedly failed, leaving the race open among its presidential aspirants for the 2027 elections.
