AU and EU Condemn US-Israeli Strikes on Iran

The African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) have condemned the recent military strikes conducted by the United States in coordination with Israel against targets within Iran, describing these actions as a serious escalation of hostilities in the Middle East. In a statement issued on Saturday, AU Chairperson Mahmoud Youssouf expressed deep concern over the military actions, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and engage in sustained dialogue in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter to safeguard international peace and security.

Youssouf warned that further escalation could worsen global instability, particularly affecting energy markets and food security in Africa. EU Council President António Costa also expressed grave concern and reaffirmed the EU's commitment to regional security and stability, emphasizing the importance of nuclear safety and the need for diplomatic solutions to address Iran's ballistic programs.

The reaction follows a wave of strikes that triggered explosions in Tehran, with US President Donald Trump stating the goal was to eliminate imminent threats from Iran.
