Australia Sets Study Requirements for Post-Study Visa

Australia's Department of Home Affairs has published the study conditions for international graduates seeking the Temporary Graduate visa, known as subclass 485. Applicants must have completed their studies within six months before applying.

They must have either finished a single eligible qualification requiring at least two academic years of study or a combination of qualifications totaling at least two academic years. All study must occur in Australia, covering a minimum of 16 calendar months, while the applicant held a visa that allowed study.

The qualifications must result in an eligible degree, diploma, or trade certificate, with instruction delivered in English and courses registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). The guidance specifies that meeting these study requirements is necessary for visa eligibility but does not guarantee approval.

Graduates are encouraged to consult the official Home Affairs website before applying. The 16-month study requirement may affect students who completed significant portions of their courses online from outside Australia.
