Australia Sets Financial Requirement for Working Holiday Visa

Australia's Department of Home Affairs has revealed the financial requirements for foreign nationals applying for the Working Holiday visa (subclass 417). Applicants must demonstrate they have approximately AUD 5,000 (about ₦5,000,000) to support their initial stay in Australia.

This visa is targeted at travelers aged 18 to 30, with an extension to citizens of certain eligible countries up to 35 years old. The AUD 5,000 covers only the initial period of stay and does not include the cost of the return or onward journey.

Applicants must also show they have sufficient funds to cover their departure fare, which varies by destination. The subclass 417 visa is designated for first-time applicants, allowing them to live and work in Australia for an extended period, with employment intended to supplement their travel funds.

The age eligibility extension for some countries broadens access compared to the standard 30-year cap.
