Australia Lists 70 Visa-Free Transit Countries for 2024

Australia's Department of Home Affairs has published the conditions and a list of 70 countries whose citizens are permitted to transit through Australian airports without a visa, effective from September 23, 2024. This policy, known as Transit Without Visa (TWOV), allows eligible travelers to pass through Australia en route to a third country without applying for a visa, provided they meet certain requirements.

To qualify, travelers must arrive in Australia by aircraft, possess a confirmed outbound ticket to a third country within eight hours of arrival, and carry a valid travel document accepted by their destination country. Importantly, they must not pass through immigration or leave the airport transit lounge before boarding their connecting flight.

The list of eligible nationalities includes countries such as Canada, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom, among others. Additionally, residents of Hong Kong with specific passports and Indian official passport holders are also eligible for TWOV.
