FG's Commitment to Transform Nigeria's Agrifood System

At the 2nd Biannual Meeting of the Agrifood Systems Working Group (ASWG) in Abuja, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to transforming Nigeria's agrifood system. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, institutional reforms, science-driven agriculture, and increased private-sector investment to achieve national food security and reduce poverty.

Bagudu commended Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, for leading the implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) 2026–2035. He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has set a national target to lift Nigerians out of poverty by 2030 through inclusive economic growth and improved livelihoods.

Bagudu highlighted Nigeria's agricultural landscape, which consists of over 42 million agricultural households, primarily smallholder family farms. He stressed the need for coordinated contributions from various sectors to modernize agricultural production and improve productivity, while acknowledging security challenges that have impacted agricultural productivity in some regions.
