Petit Names Messi, Yamal, Rodri Over Kane for Ballon d’Or

Former France international Emmanuel Petit has identified three players as favorites for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, placing them ahead of England captain Harry Kane. Petit believes Kane's chances of winning the award are over, particularly due to his performance in the German league and a perceived lack of impact in the Champions League and with the national team.

He specifically mentioned Argentina captain Lionel Messi, Spain's Lamine Yamal, and Rodri as players who have outperformed Kane. Petit remarked, “Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or chances are over.

If you base that only on the German league, no problem at all,” indicating that Kane's visibility and contributions have diminished in critical competitions. He highlighted Yamal's strong World Cup performance and noted Rodri's excellence during the same tournament, while also acknowledging Messi's achievements despite his current club status at Inter Miami.

The Ballon d’Or winner will be announced in October.
