Pharmacists Call for Total Ban on Sachet Alcohol in Nigeria

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has made an appeal to the Federal Government of Nigeria to completely ban sachet alcohol. This statement was made by ACPN Chairman Ambros Ezeh and was made available to the Daily Post on Monday.

Ezeh condemned the alleged decision of the Federal Government to reverse a previous ban on the retail distribution of alcoholic beverages in sachets containing less than 200ml. The ACPN highlighted the necessity of safeguarding public health and referenced the principles of harm reduction and child protection.

They firmly stated that sachet alcohol should not be treated as a symbol of regulatory exercise, emphasizing the need for a prohibition to protect the public from potential health risks associated with these products.
