Nigerian Shea Association Seeks 90-Day Grace Period After Export Ban

The Nigerian Shea Producers Association (NASPAN) is requesting a 90-day grace period following the sudden ban on shea nut kernel and butter exports. NASPAN President Mohammed Ahmed Kontagora emphasized the need for the grace period to fulfill existing contractual obligations worth billions of naira.

The association aims to enhance local processing, reduce informal trade, and promote job creation and rural economic growth. Kontagora urged the government to establish a Shea Marketing Board and provide support to processors.

NASPAN also highlighted the Shea Parkland Restoration Afforestation Programme (SPARE) for sustainable shea tree management. The appeal for a transition period seeks to ensure a smooth shift towards compliance with the new export regulations.
