Nigerian Clergy Call for Arrest of Ex-Governors Over Banditry in North-west

A group of interfaith clergy in Northern Nigeria, led by Bishop Sundai Bawa, has urged President Bola Tinubu to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of former governors Attahiru Bafarawa and Ahmad Sani Yerima. They are accused of fueling banditry and terrorism in the North-west, particularly through alleged connections with notorious bandit kingpin Bello Turji.

The clergy highlighted the deep-rooted issues of land dispossession and the evolution of criminal gangs in the region. They emphasized the devastating toll of banditry, citing thousands of deaths and kidnappings.

The call for justice comes amid escalating violence and ethnic tensions in the area.
