Clerics Demand Arrest of Ex-Governors Over Banditry Links in Northern Nigeria

Muslim and Christian clerics in Northern Nigeria, represented by the Northern Interfaith Clergy for Peace, have called for the arrest and prosecution of two former governors, Attahiru Bafarawa and Ahmad Sani Yerima, for their alleged roles in the rise of banditry in the North West. The clerics expressed serious security concerns following a video by notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, blaming the ex-governors for exacerbating ethnic divisions and violence.

They highlighted unresolved issues around land ownership, marginalization, and the unchecked growth of criminal groups. The clerics submitted a petition to President Bola Tinubu demanding a full investigation into the claims raised in the video.
