Bandits Abduct 50 Elders During Peace Meeting in Zamfara

On Sunday, bandits kidnapped 50 elders during a peace meeting in Magamin Diddi Village, located in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The meeting, attended by the elders, aimed to negotiate reconciliation with the bandits to enable local residents to return to farming after a year of insecurity.

Musa Sani reported that the community had decided to engage in dialogue with the bandits. Unfortunately, the bandits disagreed with the peace accord and chose to abduct the elders.

Bello Dosara, the chairman of the Maradun Local Government Area, confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that the community did not inform local government authorities about the reconciliation process with the bandits. He expressed concern over the incident and reiterated that the state government had warned against engaging with the bandits.

As of now, 11 of the abducted elders have been released, while 39 remain in captivity.
