Teacher and two others killed in Sokoto ambush
On Wednesday, gunmen ambushed vehicles traveling along the Gundumi-Isa road in Sokoto, resulting in the deaths of three individuals: a teacher known as Imam, Abdurrahman Umar, the vehicle's driver, and his five-year-old son, Abubakar Abdurrahman. A witness, Malam Kabiru Isa, reported that the victims were part of a convoy returning to Isa under heavy security escort.
The convoy had departed around 4pm, but some vehicles, including that of the victims, returned to a meeting point after others had left. The security personnel escorting the convoy spotted suspected bandits and opened fire, causing the assailants to flee.
However, the gunmen later ambushed the vehicles following the convoy, leading to the fatalities and injuries of three others, with one passenger still missing. Imam was a newly recruited teacher at Government Day Secondary School, Maitandu, who had not yet received his first salary and was in Sokoto for a verification exercise related to payment.
The deceased were buried on Thursday morning. Efforts to confirm details from the Sokoto State Police Command were unsuccessful.
