Ex-NYSC DG: Bandits Supported by Influential Figures

Brig Gen Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), the former Director of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), asserted that bandits are not acting alone but are receiving support from individuals in positions of power. Tsiga made this statement during a press conference held in Kaduna, where he reflected on his own harrowing experience of being kidnapped by bandits in his hometown of Katsina earlier in the year.

He described the troubling support system that enables bandit operations, which extends beyond the forests and involves logistics and information suppliers allegedly connected to influential people. Tsiga recounted a specific incident involving a call for ammunition, highlighting the serious nature of the threats posed by these groups.

His comments underscore the complex dynamics of insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in relation to the involvement of powerful individuals in facilitating banditry.
