NYSC Former DG Urges Successor to Sustain Achievements

During a courtesy visit in Kaduna, Brigadier General Maharazu Ismaila Tsiga, the former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), urged the current Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafi'u, to sustain the achievements of the NYSC as it marks its 53rd anniversary. Tsiga commended the staff and corps members for their significant contributions to the NYSC's objectives over the years, describing them as the backbone of the organization.

He encouraged Nafi'u to enhance the welfare of corps members to boost their morale. Tsiga highlighted his tenure from 2009 to 2011, during which he introduced the "War Against Poverty" program, providing corps members with N250,000 to start small-scale businesses.

Nafi'u acknowledged the challenges posed by an increasing number of graduates entering the service and emphasized the need for the NYSC to expand skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programs to combat graduate unemployment.
