Barau Jibrin Welcomes Shekarau, Gwarzo to APC

On Tuesday, Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, welcomed former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and former Chief Whip of the Senate Bello Hayatu Gwarzo to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Both politicians recently resigned from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, citing persistent internal leadership crises within the opposition party.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the defections as a significant boost to APC's strength and prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that Shekarau and Gwarzo, as distinguished politicians, rightfully belong to the APC, which is the largest political party in Africa.

Senator Barau expressed confidence in sustaining grassroots support for APC in Kano State, positioning the party favorably for upcoming presidential, governorship, and parliamentary elections in 2027. He also noted the ongoing wave of defections from the opposition party reflects growing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
