Bayelsa Governor Diri Urges Permanent Secretaries to Enhance Governance

Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri, represented by his deputy Dr Peter Akpe, highlighted the critical role of permanent secretaries in effective governance during a three-day executive training program in Yenagoa. The training, organized by the Bayelsa State Government in collaboration with the Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered), focused on ‘Strategic Leadership and Public-Sector Governance for Effective Service Delivery.’ Diri stressed the importance of a professional civil service, stating that permanent secretaries must act as a bridge between political leaders and the bureaucracy.

He urged them to provide professional advice and work collaboratively with other officials, emphasizing the necessity of continuous learning to stay relevant. The Head of Service, Dr Ebiye Sawyer, noted that the training was timely, as citizens expect government institutions to be responsive and efficient.

He encouraged participants to embrace digital transformation and improve administrative processes to better serve the public.
