Baze University Commits ₦25m to Indigenous Knowledge Research

During the seventh inaugural lecture at Baze University on Tuesday, Vice Chancellor Professor Abiodun Adeniyi delivered a lecture titled "Exploring the Enduring Influence of Identity and Memory in Communities." The Chancellor announced a ₦25 million commitment to indigenous knowledge research. Professor Adeniyi discussed the evolving nature of migration, emphasizing that it is no longer just a physical movement but involves carrying memories and identities.

He noted that technology, particularly mobile phones and social media, allows migrants to stay connected with their communities, making physical absence not synonymous with social absence. The event was attended by notable figures, including former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon.

Emeka Ihedioha, who praised Professor Adeniyi's contributions to academia. The Chancellor lamented the neglect of African intellectual heritage and called for efforts to document it.

The lecture drew comparisons with ancient civilizations and highlighted the importance of preserving oral traditions in the digital age.
