Governor Diri Urges Fairness in IYC Electoral Process

On Tuesday, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State charged the electoral committee of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) to conduct a fair contest and ensure a credible electoral process for the upcoming elections scheduled for July 11, 2026. This directive was given during a presentation by IYC President Jonathan Lokpobiri, who introduced Dr.

Charl Ikimi as the head of the electoral committee at the Government House in Yenagoa. Governor Diri expressed concern over recent electoral crises within the Ijaw nation and urged the committee to avoid such issues.

He assured that his administration would support the IYC's growth while advising against any involvement in partisan politics. Diri also acknowledged the successful drafting of a new constitution by the IYC, which aims to address existing challenges.

He commended the outgoing leadership for initiating the construction of a permanent secretariat for the council and reminded the organization of its historical struggles, particularly referencing late Major Isaac Adaka Boro.
