BEDC Electricity Engages Unions to Resolve Staff Issues
The management of BEDC Electricity Plc has initiated dialogue with labor unions to resolve ongoing staff concerns after recent picketing over alleged unpaid entitlements. Evelyn Gbiwen, Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, stated that the management is dedicated to staff welfare and industrial harmony.
Since March 2025, over 1,500 employees have been promoted, and new benefits such as performance-based incentives, retirement benefits, bereavement support, and enhanced healthcare have been introduced. A meeting with the union on October 7, 2026, addressed salary harmonization and other staff-related issues, with further discussions expected by the second week of November 2026.
In September 2026, 1,394 employees received long-service awards. Gbiwen noted that salary disparities arose from the integration of various worker categories during the company's 2013 restructuring.
Financial consultants are reviewing employee records to create a fair salary framework. Although some staff concerns remain, management is committed to resolving these issues in phases.
