Nollywood Veteran Jide Kosoko Selected as Oloja of Lagos, Embracing Traditional Leadership Role

Jide Kosoko, a 72-year-old veteran Nollywood actor, has been chosen as the Oloja of Lagos, a significant traditional role emphasizing cultural and community duties. Kosoko's official presentation as the Oloja-elect took place on January 24 at the Palace in Elereko, Lagos, signifying a new chapter in his public life beyond Nollywood.

The appointment does not indicate any impact on his acting career. Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr.

Latin, commended Kosoko's discipline and societal relevance, highlighting the responsibility associated with the role. The Oloja of Lagos position had been vacant since the passing of Chief Adebola Ig in 2017.

Kosoko's emergence as the Oloja was announced by Mrs. Mutiat Ali Balogun, the Olori Ebi of the Kosoko royal family, during a traditional ceremony.

This move reflects a growing trend of entertainers embracing traditional leadership roles, following in the footsteps of comedian Okei Bakassi who became a monarch in Imo State.
