Benin Republic is seeking the extradition of Lt. Col.

Pascal Tigri, the leader of a failed coup, who is reportedly hiding in Togo. The coup attempt, quickly crushed with Nigerian military assistance, has raised concerns about stability in West Africa.

President Patric Talon's government faces criticism over security issues in northern Benin, including jihadist threats. The coup attempt is linked to grievances such as economic mismanagement, healthcare cuts, and political restrictions.

Romuald Wadag is expected to succeed Talon next year.
