Benin President Thanks Army for Foiling Coup Attempt, Promises Punishment

Benin's President Patrice Talon expressed gratitude to army leaders for their loyalty in defeating a failed military coup attempt. The group of soldiers, calling themselves the "Military Committee," tried to seize control but were swiftly stopped.

Talon vowed to punish the mutineers and ensure the safety of the country. Thirteen soldiers were arrested, and the fate of coup leader Lt.

Col. Pascal Tigri remains unclear.

ECOWAS intervened by deploying troops from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and Ghana to support Benin's government and preserve constitutional order.
